Demolition contractors got to work tearing down a vacant gas station — and longtime eyesore — at the corner of Cherokee Road and Airport Drive Wednesday.

The Victory Fuels gas station has sat derelict for more than a year, prompting the City of Alexander City to threaten condemnation in October.
