Unsurprisingly, it was Benjamin Russell’s distance runners who did the most damage at the Opelika Invitational on Saturday to kick off the track and field season.

Reginald Sweetwyne and Layton Bradford both advanced to the state championships during the indoor season and they picked up right where they left off in outdoors. Sweetwyne collected first place in the 800 and the 1,600, clocking in at 2:11.24 and 5:02.98, respectively. Bradford took the top spot in the 3,200 with a time of 10:44.24.
