Benjamin Russell's season comes to an end in quarterfinals

Benjamin Russell's Lucan Yates (9) and Pelham's Tyler Deaver battle for a header during Friday's quarterfinal matchup.

Entering Friday night’s Class 6A quarterfinal at Pelham, the Benjamin Russell boys soccer team knew it had already accomplished one of the best seasons in program’s history. However, that did not make it any easier to swallow the 7-2 defeat after the Panthers scored five second half goals to end the Wildcats’ season.

“There’s not many Benjamin Russell teams that have gone through and won 15 or 16 games,” BRHS coach Austin Teel said. “That’s still an incredible mark. It’s an ugly taste and not how you wanted to finish but it was still a great season and a fun season.”
