Layfield takes 11th, other area runners compete at AHSAA cross country championships

Submitted / The Outlook Horseshoe Bend eighth grader David Layfield set a school record and took 11th place at the AHSAA high school state cross country championships Saturday.

One local eighth grader came within one spot of a top-10 finish at a high school state championship cross country meet.

Horseshoe Bend’s David Layfield was one of 11 runners from Benjamin Russell, Horseshoe Bend or Dadeville who qualified for this weekend’s state cross country championships and he put on a showcase of what his future could be for the Generals, placing 11th in the Class 1A/2A championship race with a time of 17 minutes 42.31 seconds.
