It is very rare that an in-season, off-the-field story deserves an article of its own. It is unicorn-uncommon that two such stories happen so close together that they force me to include both in one column. However, last week provided two such events.

The first has actually been brewing for some time. It only made a national pop once ESPN decided to run a commercial about it, though. I am talking about the push by some Ole Miss students to have the Rebel mascot (which was abandoned in 2003) replaced with ancillary character from the “Star Wars” movie. Seems some Mississippi fans want Admiral Ackbar, the catfishy leader of the Rebel Alliance in the film, as the new face of Ole Miss football.
