It's a peculiar sense of fate that the last win the Benjamin Russell boys basketball team had at the old BRHS campus was against Chilton County. And the team’s first win at the new arena would also be against Chilton County, but this time with playoff implications on the line.

The Wildcats prevailed, 71-48, in the first round of the Class 6 Area 5 tournament to advance to the championship game against Calera on Wednesday. Much of what the Wildcats showcased on Monday can be attributed to the slate wiped clean.
