Last week was Cover the Uninsured Week throughout the United States, sponsored by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF). Surveys revealed that 74.7 million Americans, or 30.1 percent, under the age of 65 were without health care insurance during 2001 and 2002.

Alabama accounts for about 1.1 million of those uninsured. According to Patrick McCabe of RWJF, Alabama is in line with the national average and the situation across the country.
