Last month, we talked about that good ol’ Southern standby, sweet tea. I’m a Southern girl, but truth be told, I prefer coffee to tea. All winter long, I drink my hot brew in the morning and right on into my three o’clock afternoon pick-me-up. At some point in the spring, though, I can no longer tolerate a hot drink in the afternoon. Don’t know if it is the actual temperature rise outside, the chill of the air conditioner or difference in the light due to Daylight Savings Time. Like some migratory bug or bird, my instincts cause me to ditch a hot coffee in favor of iced coffee.
Way before there was Starbucks and way, way, way before anything but a breakfast cup of joe at McDonalds, folks took chances when ordering iced coffee in the South. Much like ordering iced tea in New York, in ordering an iced coffee here, someone was bound to pour hot coffee over ice and call it Day.
