Don’t underestimate the value of a good night’s sleep

A good night's sleep holds the key to good health.

Did you wake up this morning feeling well rested? This time of year may not be the best time to ask that question, as calming the mind can be challenging in the month of December. Many people find it difficult to rest peacefully at night after days that are inundated with shopping, making lists and checking them twice, decorating, planning menus, visiting with friends and family or preparing for company.

It is well known that healthy living encompasses diet and exercise; however, we often forget another important element. Although the mechanics of sleep and how it affects the body and mind continue to be researched, it has been confirmed over and over that sleep is necessary for us to function in a healthy manner.
