October is Manufacturing Month, a time to recognize an industry that continues to shape Alabama’s economy and provide opportunities for thousands of families across the state. It is also a time to appreciate the educators, employers, and community leaders who work together to keep that progress moving forward.

At Central Alabama Community College, our focus is preparation. Students learn the technical abilities that today’s workforce demands, but they also learn the habits that employers value most. They practice consistency, problem-solving, and pride in their work. Each of those skills carries into the next classroom, the next shift, and the next opportunity.

Michael Barnette is CACC’s dean of workforce and economic development programs.
