In 2024, Auburn began the season 2-5 overall and 0-4 in the SEC. The team struggled with turnovers giving games away like Halloween candy to every little greedy ghost and goblin in the neighborhood. Hugh Freeze talked a lot about how close he thought the Tigers were to “getting over the hump.”

He said Auburn “should” have been 4-2 or 5-1, if not for all the critical mistakes. To be honest, I thought he was right. Then, Jarquez Hunter exploded for 278 yards on a road trip to Kentucky giving Auburn their first conference victory of the season. It was a dominating win and the “hump” felt like it finally might be behind the Tigers.
