When it was announced that Steven Pearl would take over as head coach of the men’s basketball program at Auburn, I felt like it was the right decision by John Cohen. Bruce Pearl built a dynasty on the Plains, but Steven was involved in every aspect from beginning to end.

He deserved the opportunity to be the successor to his father. However, I also realized, like any coaching transition, there were bound to be some bumps in the road. Steven sat on the bench next to one of the best coaches in the country for 11 seasons observing his every move. He had daily access to Bruce’s wisdom and experience, but Steven is definitely his own man.
