A look back at 2017

2017 was a year packed full of news but some of those stories stand out more than others. As readers ring in 2018, The Tribune would like to look back at the top 10 stories of 2017.

1. One of the most talked about stories of 2017 was the announcement of Tallassee’s new Police Chief, Matthew Higgins. Before applying for the position of Chief of Police, Higgins served a bomb squad commander for Autauga County. He also served as canine bureau commander and precinct commander. Higgins worked for the Montgomery Police Department for 22 years. He is also a retired Master Sergeant/E-7 in the Air Force Reserves and served four tours of duty. He is a combat veteran who was deployed to Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Somalia and Kuwait.
