Cliff Williams / TPI Tallassee Mayor Joey Wiginton proposed significant increases to business license fees at Monday’s council meeting.

A 20-times increase of business license fees could be on the way for some Tallassee industries.

Currently Tallassee industries such as GKN and Hanil pay the City of Tallassee $1,000 per year for a business license to operate in Tallassee. At Monday’s Tallassee City Council meeting, Mayor Joey Wiginton asked for an increase in some cases to as much as $20,000 per year. Wiginton said the town needs revenue and there have been no increases in business license fees for a long time.
