Cliff Williams / TPI Tallassee Community Library librarian Margret Lumpkin has been hosting children’s reading programs at the library for nearly two decades. She believes an early introduction to reading is paramount children’s success in school and beyond.

School is back in session but it doesn’t mean children’s reading programs stop at the Tallassee Community Library. In fact the school year is the perfect time to ramp up the programs.

“We have kids from 2 to 14 involved in the weekly children’s reading program,” Tallassee Community Library director Margaret Lumpkin said. “It’s a great time for parents to come out and bond with their children, home school children to get social interaction. But most importantly, a love of reading is developed. Reading is important to all of us and getting children interested in reading at a young age is vital.”
