Kicking off the Dadeville Public Library’s summer reading program required some magic.

The theme for the program this year is Unearth a Story and that is exactly what took place in the library’s bookstore basement. Educational entertainment specialist Tommy Johns performed a few magic tricks, not missing a beat in getting a laugh from the children and adults in the room. Of course, some tricks required a bit of literature and some helping hands from the young ones. Johns earned laughs with his rat puppet show, left attendees stunned when he managed to disappear a handkerchief into his hand and out of the sleeve of one his “helpers” and when he covered up two books and swapped their places without an eye catching how he did it.
