Ana Sofia Meyer / TPI Edgewood running back Landon Smith (4) breaks away from a Hope Christian defender to pick up a first down on homecoming night.

It was a night of would’ve, could’ve, should’ve for the Edgewood Wildcats.

They welcomed Hope Christian Academy, a first-year football program and region opponent, for their homecoming night and the Wildcats were ultimately outperformed. Penalties, miscues and an ejection was the story of the night for the home team. A go-ahead touchdown with eight seconds left on the clock sealed Edgewood’s fate. It was Hope Christian’s first and last lead of the 47-40 loss for the Wildcats.
