Wetumpka secures first region win over Helena

(Carmen Rodgers) Wetumpka High School’s Davin Lee is tackeld by Helena High School’s Harrison during Friday’s game at Hohenberg Field.

The breeze that blew across West Wetumpka around 9:45 p.m. Friday night was the collective exhalation of the Indian faithful after the Tribe turned away a hungry group of Helena Huskies on fourth down to secure the 28-22 victory.

“I don’t think I did a very good job with play selection in the second half,” Wetumpka coach Tim Perry said. “We left our defense on the field way too long in the second half and that was on me, and the play selection. But, I’m very proud of our guys, our young guys. This was a big character-building game tonight.”
