The Stanhope Elmore Mustangs have the wind in their sails headed into their second-straight AHSAA Class 6A region matchup against Park Crossing. Last week, they defeated Percy Julian in a blowout 40-0 win led by junior running back Dee Barnes.

It was their home-opener at the brand-new 17 Springs facility and the home crowd showed out. The Mustangs defensive prowess was on full display as they took the lead early in the matchup with a safety by sophomore defensive back Deondre Washington. Barnes scored all five touchdowns for Stanhope Elmore (2-1, 1-0) last Friday night, rushing for over 100 yards in the first half. By the third quarter, Mustangs coach Hunter Adams decided to give the second team some reps, taking the foot off the gas as the clock ran.
