The high pedigree of Alabama High School basketball talent is finding itself nestled in Alexander City as of late. This week, the AHSAA announced the rosters for the annual North-South All-Star game with two familiar faces from Benjamin Russell making the cut: junior Amari Cunningham and boys basketball coach Jeremy Freeman.
Cunningham, who was named first-team All-Outlook, is now regarded as one of the top rising seniors in the state of Alabama. She was one of 15 girls basketball players to be named to the South team. This last season, Cunningham finished just shy of a double-double, putting up 9.3 points per game to pair alongside a second-best 7.0 rebounds per game, but put up a team-high in total rebounds with 154 — 11 more than teammate Ami Edwards, who finished second. Cunningham also finished fourth on the team in steals.
