Initially thought of as a victim of a crime, Latavian Brownfield, 20, of Sylacauga, is now a convicted murderer after he was found guilty by 12 jurors inside the CJ Coley Courthouse Annex on Wednesday afternoon.

The jury took less than an hour to convict Brownfield of the murder of Jay’Z’ion Strong on June 9, 2024, at the Benson Community Center in Alexander City. Brownfield was also found guilty of the first-degree assault of Justin Shealey, the only surviving witness to the crime.
