There is always a certain vibe to area play. The stakes get higher, each play feels a little more monumental and above all else, there is a little chippiness to it all.

All of which was apparent in the Benjamin Russell softball team’s Class 6A Area 5 opener against Calera. However, none of which affected the Wildcats, snatching a 10-6 win over the Eagles and boasting a 1-0 start to area play.
