HBS standout named Bryant-Jordan regional winner

It is well documented the kind of athlete Horseshoe Bend David Layfield has been through his running career.

In his senior year alone, he stood atop the podium in cross country and the indoor season, capturing a state title in both events. In the cross country season alone, Layfield compiled seven first-place finishes, set two course records, set the Horseshoe Bend 5K record, checked off the Tallapoosa County 5K record, ran the second fastest 5K time for Class 2A and became the AHSAA Class 1A-2A Section champion. The pinnacle being at the AHSAA Cross Country State Championship, where he ran past the competition all the way to a first-place finish with a time of 16:15.24.
