If you ever found yourself driving near or around the Horseshoe Bend campus, there was a good chance you saw David Layfield getting his miles in. Or that was just Horseshoe Bend athletic director and football coach Jeremy Phillips’ experience, at least.

“I remember when this little pipsqueak was kicking field goals for me back then,” Phillips said. “He's done an excellent job with his running career, and he's really focused in on it. Anytime you rode up here to the school, you’d always see him running around and also really proud of David and really excited for his future.”
