Backpack Buddies returns to help food insecure students

Volunteers with Backpack Buddies prepare the bags for students experiencing food insecurity over the weekend.

Roughly 42% of student households in Alexander City’s school system receive SNAP or other assistance, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.

During the weekends, some students experience food insecurity with no longer having the free lunches and breakfasts from school. To help amend the issue, Backpack Buddies began packing bags of food for students to have over the weekend.
