City landfill expansion to encompass over 100 acres

A city landfill expansion totaling 120 acres has officially been approved by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management. According to Alexander City Public Works director Drew Meacham, the permit approving expansion at the North Central Avenue Inert Landfill was approved, meaning it could be fully operational in about eight months.

The current landfill is nearing maximum capacity with about 12 months of capacity remaining, according to Meacham.
