On Thursday, June 20, Horseshoe Bend student Hayes Hunter, 10, started feeling under the weather. Just 10 days later, life changed for Hayes and his family forever.

“He started running a fever on June 20, and we had him checked out; everything came back negative,” Sheena Hunter, Hayes’ mother, said. “His white blood cell count was a little abnormal, so we figured it was just a bacterial infection.”
