Council to weigh options for District 3 vacancy

Now that former District 3 councilor Scott Hardy attended his last meeting with the City of Alexander City City Council, questions have arisen about what the next steps are to fill the District 3 seat with the upcoming election in August.

Municipal elections will be held for city council and mayor on Aug. 26, and the District 3 seat has officially been vacated. Between now and then, the council must figure out what to do to fill the vacancy — in the event a city council member must vacate their seat, the council normally receives letters of interest from citizens of that district, conducts an interview process then votes on who to appoint to fill that seat for the remainder of that term.
