Dadeville farm manufactures mushroom blocks

In the bags, Fungi Farm mixes sawdust, soybean pellets and water. The bags are cooked and then the fungus is introduced.

Down Highway 34 you might see a sign that says Fungi Farm. But this farm doesn’t grow mushrooms. 

Instead, it manufactures the blocks farmed mushrooms grow out of. Owner Allen Carroll explained Fungi Farm essentially manufactures bags of mostly sawdust, mycelium and other compounds. Mycelium is what produces the mushroom after it’s later exposed to air and exposed to water.
