First responders locate stranded kayakers

A group of officials and first responders launched a rescue mission when approximately 11 kayakers were stranded on the Tallapoosa River.

According to a press release from the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Department, at approximately 8:15 p.m. Sunday, dispatch received a call regarding the stranded kayakers who said they were below the Horseshoe Bend Bridge where they had launched. The kayakers were traveling from the bridge to the Jay Bird Creek landing. The release said due to darkness, the group became lost a few miles from their launch.
