‘Love Letters’ auditions this weekend at ACT II

Alexander City Theatre II will hold auditions this weekend for the February production of “Love Letters” by A.R. Gurney. The show calls for one male and one female actor and requires no memorization. Performances are scheduled for Feb. 14, 15 and 17 at the ACT II Fine Arts Center.

Gurney’s play, a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, opened off-Broadway in 1989 with Kathleen Turner and John Rubinstein. At the time, the show ran only two performances per week and changed its cast weekly. The two character roles in the show have been played by a number of famous actors, as it requires only a few rehearsals, and the lines are read instead of being memorized.
