Officials with Aliant Bank confirmed Wednesday that some of the bank’s customers would be receiving letters in the coming days in reference to a possible problem with their ATM and debit card accounts.

Steve Robinson, Aliant Bank’s vice-president of operations, said the bank was notified by ELAN, a subsidiary of U.S. Bank and the Aliant card processor, that the card numbers of some of the cards belonging to the bank’s customers could have been compromised between May and August of 2008.
