The Tallapoosa County School System was presented an award for Excellence in Innovation and Safety for Transportation at the 2018 School Safety Summit for Alabama in Orange Beach earlier this month. Director of student services Casey Davis accepted the award on behalf of the school system.

Tallapoosa County schools have demonstrated outstanding innovative techniques to ensure the safety of children during transit throughout its district. During a snowstorm this past school year, the district utilized the nSide|Fleet system to notify parents where live bus movements were going on throughout the county when their children were being sent home early. By posting the live bus movements to the system’s website, parents were assured of where their children were and approximately when they would arrive home. These live bus routes were overlaid on county roads, while the bus routes allowed for real-time visual confirmation for parents the school system was doing everything possible to ensure the safety of their children during this tense time.
