School may still be out, but learning never stops.

Across Alexander City, students participated in the Helping Young People Excel summer reading program. The six-week program involves students at different summer learning sites participating in a range of reading and math learning activities. Each student was given a certificate from HYPE and a drawstring bag with school supplies, earbuds and other educational goodies by Lake Martin Area United Way, which also gave the sites new books. On Thursday morning, the students who attend both Woody Woodpecker Learning Center and Woody Woodpecker After School were honored for reading over 1,000 books, completing 239 reading lessons and activities and completing 26 math lessons and activities.
