AHSAA to implement shot clock for boys, girls basketball

The Alabama High School Athletic Association Central Board of Control in its April CBOC meeting voted to approve the mandate of a 35-second shot clock for the 2026-2027 basketball season. It is required there must be two shot clocks attached to either end of the court, placed on the goalpost or wall. Thirty-two other states have adopted a shot clock in some format for the 2025-2026 season, Alabama is now the 33rd state to adopt such rules. Expected cost range is close to $5,000, but could be lowered based on the AHSAA financial reimbursement.
