I seem to be developing a nasty habit of getting sick and spending an inordinate amount of time in the hospital every winter solstice. It’s been like clockwork the last two years. My version of hibernation I suppose.

Well, I’m certainly well rested and ready to pick back up where I left off. Unfortunately, I looked back in my files and found the last column I had written was right before the NCAA Basketball Tournament began. Auburn had just won the SEC Tournament and there was a high level of confidence they could make a run at the Final Four. The baseball and softball seasons had just begun with each team sporting a rather impressive record in the preseason. I could have sworn everything was right with the world. What in the name of all that is decent and holy happened?
