The softball team at Auburn University was created in 1997 under the leadership of Tina Deese and she nurtured it for 17 seasons establishing a consistent and solid program. They made their first NCAA Regional in 2002 and would go on to make the Tournament nine times in twelve years.

The Tigers were very competitive, but never made it past the first round of the playoffs. Deese stepped down in 2013 and was replaced by a legendary figure in the sport, Clint Myers. Myers found immediate success taking Auburn to the World Series in his second and third year finishing as the runner up to Oklahoma in 2015.
