The common saying, “Save your best for last,” is something Horseshoe Bend senior David Layfield is really taking to heart this year.

Layfield has piled up almost every accolade he can throughout his career as a long-distance runner for the Generals, and it was taken to another level when he was named to the North-South All-Star team this past summer. But even with impressive times and sheer dominance displayed, the one thing that he has not escaped with is a state title.
