In 1992, the SEC added Arkansas and South Carolina to its league membership and split the conference into two divisions– East and West.

The SEC Championship Game was born and subsequently put an end to "shared" conference titles for evermore. I remember that expansion quite well and recall very little pushback and angst concerning it. In fact, I recollect the move being considered overly positive and greatly beneficial to everyone involved including the fans.
