A new wrinkle has been a growing cause of conversation amongst higher-ups in AHSAA, that being high school student-athletes being allowed to profit off of name, image and likeness.

Alabama is one of seven states that strictly prohibits NIL at the high school level. Mississippi, Hawaii, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia are the other states that strictly prohibit NIL across all levels of high school athletics. However, a state like North Carolina prohibits NIL for public schools while permitting it in private schools. Texas differs by only allowing student-athletes over the age of 18 to profit.
