Something unprecedented happened last week with now-former University of Las Vegas quarterback Matthew Sluka. After leading UNLV to a 3-0 record with wins over Houston, Utah Tech and Kansas, he will forgo the rest of the 2024 season and use his redshirt to search for a new home.

“I have decided to utilize my redshirt year and will not be playing any additional games,” Sluka wrote on X (Twitter). “I committed to UNLV based on certain representations that were made to me, which were not upheld after I enrolled. Despite discussions, it became clear that these commitments would not be fulfilled in the future. I wish my teammates the best of luck this season and hope for the continued success of the program.”
