File / TPI Benjamin Russell's volleyball coach Magan Ford is using the summer to get underclassmen acclimated to the speed of the varsity level.

The summer provides any team with the opportunity to try new things, and especially to try new players.

The Benjamin Russell volleyball team had that opportunity last week in a playdate at Sylacauga. It was a two-day event, with JV playing on Day 1 and the varsity team to follow the next day. However, Benjamin Russell did not have the entirety of its varsity lineup in attendance, which meant some of those JV players got some meaningful reps.
