The copperhead is Lake Martin’s most common venomous snake

Of the three poisonous snakes commonly found in the Lake Martin area, copperheads are probably the least feared. Maybe it’s because copperheads lack the ugly body and aggressive behavior of the water moccasin, or the audible warning and formidable reputation of a rattlesnake. Maybe it’s because copperheads are beautiful, non-aggressive pit vipers that have the least toxic venom of any native poisonous snake in the U.S.
