I admit I am a history junkie, particularly of west Elmore County where my three-time great-grandfather settled in the early 1800s. I find history fascinating; it’s like shifting sand dunes on a beach. What is present one day slowly changes and evolves into a new creation the next. The history of Elmore County has been evolving like dunes on a beach since the beginning of time.

The meteorite impact millions of years ago; the selection of this area by native Americans to carve out an existence in a wilderness; the early pioneers’ decisions to further develop our area; and particularly, the leadership and hard work of a great people to build a civilized nation has brought us to where we are today. As a people, we are not today what we were yesterday, and tomorrow we will not be the same as we are today. Little by little we change. The same is true as the history of our beloved county evolves.
