Back in the Day: Local Travels of Renowned Conservationist

America’s first native-born naturalist, artist and author, William Bartram (1739-1823) visited the Tallassee area twice. His journey through the southeastern United States, during the Revolutionary War era, to observe, study, collect and record the flora and fauna of the Southeast included detailed descriptions of his visits to the lands of the Muscogulges or Creek Indians. He made many drawings and took notes on the Native American Indians.
