Back in the Day: The Rev. Peyton Bibb

The Reverend’s home still stands on AWF property in Millbrook.

I was completely surprised when I learned that the 14.81 acres I call home in Robinson Springs, within the city limits of Millbrook, was first patented by the Rev. Peyton Bibb (1785-1840). The Bibb family was monumental in the early establishment and development of Alabama, particularly what is now the western portion of Elmore County.

The two most recognized names of the Bibb family are perhaps the two older brothers of Peyton; William Wyatt Bibb (1781-1820) M.D., the first governor of Alabama whose home was in Coosada, near Robinson Springs; and Thomas Bibb (1783-1839), the second governor of Alabama who resided in Huntsville.
