Cancer − There’s that word again. Cancer is not just one disease, but a large group of diseases with two main characteristics: 1) the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in an area of the body; and 2) the ability of those cells to spread from the original site to other areas of the body.  Breast cancer is a malignancy that starts in the cells of the breast, and while it most often occurs in women, men can get it, too.

Excluding cancers of the skin, breast cancer is the most common cancer among U.S. women.  Men are generally at low risk for developing breast cancer but should certainly report any change in their breasts to a physician.
