MONTGOMERY – A bill that would let state workers also serve in the Alabama Legislature likely will not pass this year, in part because a filing mix-up has given Gov. Bob Riley the power to single-handedly defeat the measure.

Currently, legislators are allowed until 2010 to serve the dual roles, which some have dubbed “double dipping.” Riley has promised to veto the new measure that would have done away with that deadline.
