Former WPD officer sentenced for negligent homicide

A former Wetumpka police officer received his sentence after he was convicted of criminally negligent homicide last month.

Andrew Bass was sentenced to serve one year in jail by presiding judge Sibley Reynolds. Bass was convicted in September of causing the death of 52-year-old Elaine Merritt, the wife of a former state trooper, while on duty.
