In April 1996, quite by chance, I had the opportunity to go into the Tulane-Bates-Kidd burial vault in the Wetumpka City Cemetery. On the previous April morning, I was browsing in an antique shop in Montgomery when the proprietor mentioned that he and a friend had been in Wetumpka the day before looking at the old Kidd house on Tuskeena Street.

I asked if they rode through the cemetery and the family burial vault. He said they did, and I mentioned that I would like to know who was buried there. There are no names outside the vault except the family names. He said that a Mr. Kidd in Birmingham and some members of his family were there in the area at that time and would I like to meet them.
